Daniel Ruen was born in the the South Bronx, NYC, where his father was pastor of St. Peter’s Lutheran church on 140th Street and Willis Avenue. PD grew up in Shorewood, Milwaukee, where he met his partner, Clare. Pastor Ruen earned a degree in Urban Studies from the University of Minnesota in 2000.
At the time, he was living and working as a graphic designer and illustrator in Minneapolis, attending Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church on the south side.
In 2001, he entered Luther Seminary in St. Paul, and served Mount Olive Lutheran Church as Vicar for the 2003-2004 academic year.
He completed his Clinical Pastoral Education at University Good Samaritan Hospital in the summer of 2005.
Before taking his first call at Grace, he and his family spent a year serving on long term staff at Holden Village, a Lutheran retreat center in the Northern Cascade Mountains.
He lives with his family (Clare, Zora, and Isaac) in Evanston. Pastor Ruen has been serving Grace since May of 2007.
In 2013 Grace and Pastor Daniel were awarded a Lilly Endowment Grant for Sabbatical leave. PD used his time to develop a passion for music outreach, creating and recording an album of originals. You can find out more at revruin.com
